Dr. Sherine Shawky has a Medical Degree from the Faculty of Medicine Ain Shams University - Egypt. She obtained a Masters and Doctorate in Public Health from the School of Public Health - Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium. She also has Masters in Statistics, Epidemiologic and Operational Methods Applied in Medicine and Public Health from the School of Public Health - Free University of Brussels, Belgium.
Since 2003, she works as Research Professor/Senior Research Scientist at the Social Research Center of the American University in Cairo. Previously, she was Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University -Saudi Arabia. Her early work was in Rwanda as an expert among the Egyptian-Rwandan Cooperation Program, under Egypt Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa - Egypt Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Sherine has over 30 years of experience in research and capacity building. The areas of interest of her work include sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis B and C, NCDs, health systems, social determinants of health, and health equity. She serves as consultant for national, regional and international agencies and has over 40 peer-reviewed publications, as well as national and regional reports.
