Irene Torres, PhD, MA, BAFellowIrene Torres is a member and Technical Director of Fundacion Octaedro, an Ecuadorian NGO dating back to 1995, and board member of the Ecuadorian Society of Public Health. Irene has worked with State University of New York Upstate Medical University in a study of chronic kidney disease of unknown origin in Ecuador, led a continuity study of the Health on the Go Program of the District of Quito, Ecuador, funded by Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research, and the Special Program for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, and been principal investigator of a study on nutritional practices of public school students in the Metropolitan District of Quito. During the 2016 earthquake recovery efforts in Ecuador, Irene worked as Health and Nutrition Specialist for UNICEF. She has been Director of the School of Communication of Universidad Internacional del Ecuador and Academic Coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Education and Social Development at Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccial. She has done consultancy work for the Inter-American Development Bank, the Ecuadorian government and not-for-profit organizations such as SOS Children’s Villages. She has published in The Lancet, American Journal of Public Health, The Lancet Global Health, Health Promotion International, Health Education, Health Education Journal, and Appetite.Twitter: @lairene1
