Bishnu Thapa, MPA, BAFellowBishnu Thapa is a doctoral student in the Department of Health Services, Policy and Practice (HSPP) at Brown University School of Public Health. He is primarily interested in health policy issues in low and lower middle income countries (LMICs). His research interests lie broadly at the intersection of health economics and financing, with specific research areas involving program evaluation, health insurance, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), primary care, and integrated care delivery. Some of his current projects include: the evaluation of integrated behavioral health intervention in Rhode Island, examining the role of health insurance in hypertension screening in Kenya, understanding the implementation experience of social health insurance schemes in Nepal, and studying integrated care delivery approaches for people faced with the double burden of both HIV and NCDs in Kenya.Bishnu is interested in the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda and in learning how LMICs can make progress towards UHC. Before enrolling into the PhD program, he worked with the World Bank Group’s Health, Nutrition and Population (HNP) team for three years in Washington DC. He has worked in a number of countries including Sierra Leone, Sudan, Nepal, Uganda, Vietnam, India, and Albania.
